Frequently Asked Questions

To enter please register for a ticket online.  This is a not-for-profit organisation and all proceeds will be donated to charity organisations and community groups.

Once a ticket has been ordered, an email confirmation will be sent to the email address on the booking.

The email confirmation will contain a QR code and a ticket number.  You will need this information in order to collect a swim wristband.

Please note: If a person does not have a swim wristband they will not be able to have a swim medal.

It is strongly advised to register and collect your wristband before New Year’s Day, however, you will also be able to enter on the day.

All entries for the swim (booked in advance or on the day) must be completed online.

Please make sure you give yourself enough time before the start of the swim to collect your wristband as it is likely to be extremely busy at the pickup point.

Wristbands can be collected from the Salt on the Strand, Saundersfoot shop or at a pickup point located near the slipway of Saundersfoot beach.

For the opening times of the pickup point, please follow our NYDS Facebook and Instagram pages (links below).

On arrival, please have the email order confirmation ready for a speedy check-in.

There is no set fancy dress theme, however, we do encourage all swimmers to choose their own fancy dress for the day.

Although it is called a ‘Swim’, it is in fact a ‘dash & splash’.  The rule is that your head must go under!  If, however, you are 80+ we’d expect you to go no further than your knees.

There is no age limit but during the event, children and young persons under the age of 16yrs are to be under the supervision of parent/s or designated adult, at all times.

Yes!  We have our own JustGiving fundraising page:

Yes, of course you can. If you can persuade people to sponsor you, then that money will go to your nominated charity.

Please download a sponsor form from this website.  Complete the top of the form giving your details as well as the name of your charity.  Also please keep us posted on your fundraising effort as we will add it to the overall total.

There isn’t a limit. You will, however, be running into the icy cold sea and this should hopefully prompt generosity from your sponsors.

If you have paid your entry fee and collected your wristband you will get a medal.

All sponsorship money must be handed in to Salt On The Strand, Saundersfoot by the end of January.  Please include your sponsor form, clearly identifying the chosen charity or worthwhile cause.  If living away, please send a cheque with the sponsorship form to Saundersfoot Festivities Ltd.

When all the money has been collected, the committee members of Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim will allocate the bucket collection to all the various charities.  Sponsored swimmers are therefore guaranteed that what they collect will be topped up.

Your nominated charity will only receive a top-up if you send the money you have collected to Salt On The Strand, Saundersfoot. The cost of putting on the swim is met through commercial sponsorship from local businesses.

Our biggest advice is to wear suitable footwear!

For more Safety Advice information please visit our terms and conditions page.

In the swim’s history, despite some very poor weather, as we had this year, we have never called the swim off. However, the safety of the swimmers is paramount and the final decision will be made in consultation with the RNLI and the emergency services, all of which will be on duty on the day

Charlie is the swim’s very own mascot! He was so named by Saundersfoot Primary School, following a competition. ‘Shivers’ is self explanatory but we would like to think that the name ‘Charlie’ remembers a local hero, Charlie Cox, who led many a Swim when he was well into his 80’s.
